<4K・52min.>
Miyabori artisan Nanbu Hakuun III has conducted various activities and events to promote traditional artistry. However, he felt that the temporary nature of events and workshops “did not get the message across.”
Strongly feeling that “a craftsman’s purpose is to create things,” he gathered master craftsmen from various fields of traditional artistry to create a single masterpiece. The object they aimed to create was a new karabitsu, a chest used to deliver food every morning to Kukai at the inner sanctuary of Mount Kōya.
Taking on the production of karabitsu, which is rooted in 1200 years worth of tradition, the craftsmen combine their skills with the goal of creating “a masterpiece that will last a1000 years.”
